Drangsnes Hot Pots

Heitir pottar á Drangsnesi

The Drangsnes Hot Pots are three small geothermal tubs set along the shoreline in the middle of Drangsnes, visible from the road and used year-round by locals and visitors. They are simple, social, and unusually direct: hot pots between the village street and the sea.

Region

Westfjords

Coordinates

65.6882° N, 21.4482° W

Accessibility
Wheelchair · Limited
The tubs are roadside and easy to find, but tub entry, changing arrangements, and wet outdoor surfaces are not fully accessible.
Limited mobility · Partial
Very short approach from the road, though stepping into small tubs and managing outdoor changing can be difficult.
Sensory · Partial
Open sea air, wind, close quarters with strangers, and hot-cold contrast can be intense despite the simple setting.
Cognitive · Partial
The site is easy to understand, but visitors must self-manage etiquette, temperature comfort, donations, and safe roadside movement.

Why it matters

The pots have become a local meeting place and a visitor landmark even after Drangsnes built a formal swimming pool, preserving the informal social role of shoreline geothermal bathing.
