Why it matters

Höfn developed as Hornafjörður's harbour and service centre and was briefly named Hornafjarðarbær between 1994 and 1998 before reverting to its traditional name. Vatnajökull, Europe's largest ice cap by volume, dominates the inland skyline from town.
