Into the Glacier Classic Tour
Region: West IcelandCoordinates: 64.6992° N, 20.8684° W
Into the Glacier's Classic Tour departs from Húsafell or Klaki for a guided trip into the man-made ice tunnel in Langjökull. The outing combines a modified glacier-vehicle ride with about an hour inside the glacier tunnel.
Important to know
- Guide required
- The glacier tunnel is visited only as a guided tour using the operator's glacier vehicles and guides.
Plan the stop
- Who it suits
- All ages
- There are no age restrictions and children are welcome, but the cold tunnel, bumpy glacier vehicle, and snow walking are best for children who tolerate winter gear and an hour in a structured group; ages 0-2 need a baby carrier.
- Allow
- 4 hrs
Accessibility
- Wheelchair · Limited
- The operator says the trucks require five high steps, full-size wheelchairs cannot be stored, and the tunnel floor is uneven, slushy snow; a foldable chair may need to be carried through difficult sections.
- Limited mobility · Limited
- Guests should be able to walk about 500 m on snow and ice and stand for about an hour; the glacier vehicle ride can be bumpy.
- Sensory · Limited
- Expect cold around 0 C inside the tunnel, wet or slippery snow and ice underfoot, engine noise, group movement, and bright glare on the glacier.
- Cognitive · Partial
- The guided format is structured, but guests must follow safety instructions, stay with the guide, dress correctly, and manage changing weather or road conditions.
